Six for Men's Lacrosse Named to All-MAC Teams; Lockard Tabbed Coach of the Year

Senior Dave Simcox (Ridley, PA) was picked second team All-Middle Atlantic Conference for men's lacrosse a third time, headlining six Widener players cited for all-league honors.

Cory Malampy (Ridley, PA) was picked second team All-MAC a second straight year, with fellow senior Jim Forsythe (West Chester, PA) and junior Andrew Janusz (Easton, PA) tabbed second team for the first time.  Junior Kevin Rider (Shamong, NJ) and sophomore Ryan Shewell (Ellicott City, MD) were named honorable mention all-league and Jamie Lockard was picked the conference Coach of the Year.

Simcox has been a formidable player at long-stick midfield, always reeking havoc on defense and helping jumpstart the offense.  Also named second team in 2007 and 2009, he easily led the team this season with 54 caused turnovers, was second with 85 ground balls and has the Pride sixth in the league with a 7.91 goals-against average.

Malampy has been a dominant force at attack with 110 career goals and 157 points, both just outside Widener's top 10.  He is tied for fourth in the MAC this season with 38 goals, fifth with 52 points, is first on the team with five man-up goals and second with 14 assists.

Forsythe is another reason why Widener's defense has played as well as it has.  A three-year starter who has missed just one start during that span, Forsythe has totaled 14 caused turnovers and 12 ground balls this season.

Janusz has been extremely valuable at midfield with his scoring touch.  He is fifth on the squad with 19 points and fifth with 14 goals.

Rider, one of just four players to start all 19 games for the Pride, has been a solid competitor at midfield.  He is third on the team with 39 ground balls and also has amassed nine goals and 12 points.

Shewell has given Widener quality time at midfield this season.  He is third on the squad with 28 points, seventh with 10 points and has a point in his last 11 games.

Lockard finally got his just due after winning his third MAC crown in four seasons at the helm.  The two-time All-America for Widener as a player in 2002 and 2003 also won league titles as a player in 2000, 2002 and 2003 as well as an assistant coach in 2006.

Widener (10-9, 6-5 MAC) is coming off Saturday's 10-8 win at FDU-Florham for its 12th MAC title and fifth in six years.  It became the lowest seed to win this tournament at No. 6 and the first to do so with three road wins.  It previously was the only team to win three games in the tournament, accomplishing this during the 2007 title campaign.

Widener on Wednesday opens play in its eighth NCAA Tournament appearance at Springfield.  Game time in Springfield, MA is 4:00 pm.
