Politarhos Named Preseason Honorable Mention All-America a Second Straight Year
Bookmark and Share

Widener senior defender Nick Politarhos (Ridley, PA) has been named Preseason Honorable Mention All-America for Men’s Lacrosse by Inside Lacrosse Magazine a second consecutive year.

Politarhos has posted an incredible three-year run that has seen him tabbed first team All-Middle Atlantic Conference the last two seasons.  Widener has notched a 33-23 record during his time with two league titles.

The 2009 campaign saw Politarhos lead a stingy defense which posted a 7.08 goals against average and yield five goals or fewer in six games.  He was one of four on the team to start all 19 contests, led the squad with 32 caused turnovers and was fourth with 52 ground balls.

His performance went a long way in Widener (10-9, 7-3 MAC) advancing to the MAC final a fifth consecutive year and notching its eighth straight year with at least 10 wins.  The Pride’s dream of a fifth straight league title ended with a loss at FDU-Florham.

This marks the fourth straight year Widener has had at least one player named to the Preseason All-America Team.

Widener opens the 2010 season on a three-game homestand, starting February 20 against Stevenson at 1:00 pm.
