FARGO, N.D. (May 31, 2017) – Widener University's
Bob Barnett (Glenolden, Pa.) has been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America Division III Baseball Team, as announced by the national organization on Wednesday afternoon. The senior outfielder was chosen to the second team.
A civil engineering major, Barnett is receiving the award for the second straight season after making the third team in 2016. The four-year starter has received All-Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth postseason laurels three times, ABCA All-Mid-Atlantic Region accolades twice and has also been named the MAC Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year and the
Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Performer of the Year. On the field, Barnett finished the 2017 season with a .290 batting average, 40 hits, 23 runs batted in and 24 runs scored. Furthermore, he stole 13 bases on 14 attempts.
Barnett is Widener's first student-athlete to be named a CoSIDA Academic All-American in any sport during the 2016-17 academic year. Senior Samantha DeCapua (Barnegat, N.J.) of the women's track & field program is also currently eligible to be named a CoSIDA Academic All-American over the next few weeks.
