AUSTIN, Texas (June 22, 2016) – Widener University's Thomas Zamorski (Frenchtown, N.J.) has been named to the 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-America Team in men's track & field, as announced by the national organization. The senior thrower was chosen to the first team after helping the Pride win the Middle Atlantic Conference indoor and outdoor titles.
 
Zamorski, a biomedical engineering major who was recently named the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Performer of the Year, emerged as one of the nation's premier throwers this past spring. He garnered NCAA All-America laurels by placing fifth in the weight throw at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships this past winter and matched the feat by finishing fifth in the hammer throw at NCAAs during the outdoor season.
 
In addition, Zamorski was the MAC champion in both events and was named the MAC Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year in both sports. He is the eighth student-athlete in program history to be named a CoSIDA Academic All-American and the first to make the first team since Frank McGovern did it in 1992.
 
Widener finished the 2015-16 academic year with three CoSIDA Academic All-America honorees. Softball's Alie Alkins and baseball standout Bob Barnett were also recognized for their exemplary efforts both on the field and in the classroom. The Pride also produced two CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team selections during the same season for the first time in school history, as Alkins matched Zamorski's accomplishment last month.
