MURRAY, Ky. (Nov. 3, 2016) – Widener University's Vince Char (Southampton, Pa.) and Steve Gozur (Hatfield, Pa.) have been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) District IV Academic All-America Football Team, as announced by the national organization on Thursday afternoon. Both players were chosen to the all-district first team and are now eligible for Academic All-America laurels.

To be nominated for the CoSIDA Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.3 or higher cumulative grade-point average and be a starter or significant reserve.

Char, a mechanical engineering major in his sophomore year of eligibility, is being recognized with the award for the first time of his career. The defensive tackle currently leads all Middle Atlantic Conference players with 15 tackles for a loss, ranks second in sacks and is among the national leaders in both categories. Furthermore, he has been a MAC Academic Honor Roll selection.

Gozur, a chemical engineering major, is also receiving the award for the first time. The senior captain is leading the team in tackles for the second straight season and has accumulated 65 to date, which also places him sixth in the league. The linebacker, who has made the All-MAC Second Team, also ranks second in the conference with 57 solo tackles through eight games this season. Furthermore, Gozur has earned a place on the 2015 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Team and the Academic All-MAC Team. He is currently pursuing a leadership certificate at the Oskin Leadership Institute and is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers.

Following today's announcements, Widener has three student-athletes who have made the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team in their respective sport during the 2016-17 academic year. Senior volleyball captain Sabrina Barbieri (Glen Mills, Pa.) was also recognized for the achievement earlier today.
