Men's Soccer Put on a Scoring Display in Defeating D'Youville 7-0

Boxscore (box score)

Widener had five different players score en route to a 7-0 victory over D'Youville at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium.

Widener (3-3-1) wasted no time as three minutes into the match junior Troy Czapor (Richboro, PA) netted his second goal of the season. Sophomore Eric Taylor (Bensalem, PA) dribbled the ball past a defender and found Czapor inside the box. Czapor received the pass and cracked a shot past goalkeeper Matt Smith.

The score remained 1-0 through halftime, but early in the second half the Pride scored five goals in a span of 12 minutes. In the 50th minute, Taylor received a long cross from senior Matt Parrotta (Torrington, CT), had time to settle the ball and rocket a shot into the bottom right corner.

Freshman Max Reid (Munich, Germany) was next to score for the Pride. Reid received a pass from Taylor and chipped the ball from outside the box out over the goalie's hands to make the lead 3-0.

Sophomore Malik Krcic (Saylorsburg, PA) registered the fourth goal for the Pride. Krcic used his head to score off a corner kick taken by sophomore Zac Furia (Morton, PA).

Less than a minute later Reid would score his second of the match on an unassisted shot taken from outside the box that weaved its way through defenders and into the right-side netting. Reid now is in a tie for the lead in goals this season with four.

Krcic managed his second goal in the 62nd minute on a very similar case as his first. This time it was junior Sumo Yarkpawolo (Upper Darby, PA) who placed the corner kick three yards out from the goal where Krcic headed the ball into the top corner.

For good measure in the 83rd minute senior Matt Montera (New City, NY) launched a throw in that reached halfway across the field where freshman Tommy O'Keefe (Lutherville, MD) volleyed the ball in the air to the back of the net.

The Pride led the Spartans in shots 25-3 and corner kicks 9-0.

Widener will next travel to play Rosemont on Wednesday at 4:00 pm.
