Widener’s SAAC Donates New Equipment to Special Olympics

Widener's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) in its latest display of goodwill donated new sports equipment to help with Special Olympics events in Pennsylvania.

The Pride's SAAC worked in conjunction with the NCAA's Division III partnership with Special Olympics to help the cause.  Widener used funds that were raised among all the teams in a male vs. female student-athlete Penny War that took place on campus.  They also used profits from a SAAC run concession stand at a home basketball doubleheader.

Widener donated over $600 worth of equipment that included cones, soccer balls, corner flags, bull horns, water coolers and whistles just to list a few.

Among SAAC's other goodwill acts this year include donating $4,480 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation through its sales of Widener Pride magnets and also continuing its annual tradition of presenting gifts to kids at Stetser Elementary School in Chester.

Widener's SAAC has made an invigorating effort toward working with community projects and building leadership through athletics and the University.  The SAAC also plays an active role outside the University, participating in events with other schools in the Middle Atlantic Conference to offer input on the rules, regulations and policies that affect student-athletes' lives.
