Clayton and Davis Named First Team All-ECAC South Region for Football

Widener senior wide receiver Cedrick Clayton (Cinnaminson, NJ) and freshman returner Anthony Davis (Upland, PA) have been picked first team All-ECAC South Region.

Both players will be honored February 16 during the Eastern College Football Banquet at The Meadowlands in East Rutherford, NJ.

Clayton, named first team All-Middle Atlantic Conference a second straight year, has carried the mantle as Widener's top receiver and done it with authority.  He was first in the MAC and 46th in the country with 6.18 receptions per game, third in the league as well as 36th in the nation with 90.0 receiving yards per contest and tied for fourth in the conference with 11 touchdowns.  Four times this season Clayton had over 100 yards receiving in a game.

Davis is a lightning rod on special teams as he ended second in the country with 25.86 yards per punt return, third in the league with 114.55 all-purpose yards per game, fourth with 19.0 yards per kickoff return and 10th with 2.9 receptions per contest.  The third team D3Football.com All-East Region pick was fourth on the squad with eight touchdowns and had three punt returns for scores, including two in the opener September 3 against Moravian.

Widener (9-2, 6-2 MAC) posted another exceptional season in which three of its players were named first team All-MAC and four were picked second team.  The Pride went to postseason for the 17th season in its illustrious history, upending Waynesburg 48-27 in the ECAC South Atlantic Bowl to move to 3-2 in ECAC bowls.

The Pride on October 29 became the fourth present Division III school to notch 650 victories with their 60-20 win at Albright.  Widener also scored 518 points this season for the third-highest mark in school history.

Widener opens the 2012 season at home September 1 against Western Connecticut as part of the MAC-NJAC (New Jersey Athletic Conference) challenge.
