Football Sees Three Picked First Team All-MAC and Four Tabbed Second Team

Widener was rewarded for another standout season by seeing seven players named All-Middle Atlantic Conference, including three first-team selections.

Senior wide receiver Cedrick Clayton (Cinnaminson, NJ) was picked first team all-league for the second straight year with junior quarterback Chris Haupt (Bloomsburg, PA) and freshman returner Anthony Davis (Upland, PA) also being named first team all-league.

Sophomore defensive back Laquan Robinson (Chester, PA) was picked second team all-conference a second time with sophomore left tackle Mike Pacitti (West Deptford, NJ), junior defensive end Chad Gravinese (Mullica Hill, NJ) and freshman safety Nick Rodriguez (Haddonfield, NJ) also tabbed second team all-league.

Clayton has carried the mantle as Widener's top receiver and done it with authority.  He is second in the MAC and 58th in the country with 5.7 receptions per game, fourth in the league as well as 58th in the nation with 84.1 receiving yards per contest and tied for fifth in the conference with 10 touchdowns.  Three times this season Clayton has had over 100 yards receiving in a game.

Haupt has made the most of his second year at quarterback, sitting 38th in the country and second in the conference with 263.2 yards of total offense as well as first in the MAC with 255.5 passing yards per game.  He has 2,555 passing yards this year that already is eighth in school history, 28 touchdown passes that puts him third and eight 200-yard passing games that is just one off Widener's single-year mark.

Davis is a lightning rod on special teams as he is first in the country with 27.38 yards per punt return and fourth in the league with 106.5 all-purpose yards per game.  He has three punt returns for touchdowns this season, including two in the opener September 3 against Moravian.

Robinson, named All-American, first team all-league and ECAC Rookie of the Year last season as a returner, has put together another strong campaign in the secondary.  He has 36 tackles that include 27 solos, two interceptions and nine games with at least one tackle.  Robinson, who also has two punt returns and two kickoff returns for touchdowns this season, notched eight tackles that included seven solos in the regular-season finale November 12 at No. 8 Delaware Valley.

Pacitti is part of a fierce offensive line that has allowed just six sacks this season, including none over the last three games against the conference's elite.  He has played a big role in Widener sitting first in the MAC with 278.1 passing yards per game and first with 445.9 yards of total offense per contest.

Gravinese has made an immediate impact for a defensive line that was hurt hard with graduation.  He is tied for third in the league with eight sacks and tied for fourth with 13 tackles for a loss.  Gravinese's importance to the team was known in the opener versus Moravian with seven tackles, four tackles for a loss and three sacks.

Rodriguez has established his mark on the Pride's secondary for a long time to come.  This year, he is first on the team among defensive backs with 27 solo tackles, first overall with 11 pass breakups and also has two interceptions.  This has helped Widener's sit third in the league in total defense.

Widener (8-2, 6-2 MAC) has posted its best record after 10 games since the 2002 squad went 9-1 and on Saturday will face Waynesburg in the ECAC South Atlantic Bowl, beginning at 1:00 pm at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium.  This will be the Pride's fifth appearance in an ECAC bowl, their 30th postseason contest in school history and the 17th season in the squad's illustrious history it will compete in a postseason contest.

Widener also has scored 470 points this season, the fourth-highest mark in school history.  Third place is 500 points scored in 1980, second is 537 points tallied in 2000 and first is 592 points amassed in 2001.
