Connolly Named First Team All-Conference for Softball; Dougherty Tabbed Second Team

Widener's Steph Connolly (Aston, PA) was named first team All-Commonwealth Conference for softball a second time and fellow senior Kim Dougherty (Belle Mead, NJ) was selected second team.

 

Connolly was one of five for Widener to start all 42 games.  She finished second in the conference with a .448 batting average, third with a .504 on-base percentage, second with a .768 slugging percentage, second with 56 hits, first with 43 RBI, second with 13 doubles and first with nine home runs that all were career highs.  She also set the single-season school record in hits, tied the record for the second straight year with 42 games started and posted the second highest single-season marks in school history in RBI and home runs.

 

Connolly was tabbed first team in 2008 before being named second team in 2009.  She also was named to the Middle Atlantic Conference Academic Honor Roll for the second consecutive year.

 

Dougherty also was one of five to start all 42 games.  She posted career highs with 46 hits, a team-high 33 runs, 28 RBI, 12 doubles and five home runs.  Dougherty also notched 10 victories for her third straight double-digit win total, was fourth in the league with 80 strikeouts, fourth with a .255 opposing batting average and second with two saves.

 

A three-time member of the MAC Academic Honor Roll, Dougherty also was picked first team all-conference in 2008.

 

Widener (27-15, 8-6 CC) recorded its ninth 20-win season and the second-highest win total in school history. The Pride also made the Commonwealth Conference tournament for the third consecutive year.
