Widener senior Steph Connolly (Aston, PA), who has enjoyed yet another standout year, today was named Commonwealth Conference Softball Player of the Week.

Connolly batted a robust .625 (10-for-16) with a double and three RBI in helping the Pride to a 4-1 week.  She had five hits in Widener's doubleheader sweep Saturday of Elizabethtown with a double and an RBI, including a 3-for-3 effort in game two.

Connolly this season is second in the league with a .468 batting average, first with a .520 on-base percentage, first with 52 hits, first with 39 RBI, second with 12 doubles and tied for first with eight home runs.

She was named second team all-conference in 2009 after being tabbed first team in 2008.  Last year, she received the McGowan Scholarship from Widener based on academic performance, faculty recommendation, leadership qualities and commitment to the community.

Connolly is soon to be a two-time member of the Middle Atlantic Conference Academic Honor Roll.

Her effort has gone a long way toward Widener (24-13, 6-6 CC) sitting tied for third in the league and just two victories shy of a third straight conference-tournament appearance.  Her class sports a 101-58 record for the most victories of any four-year stretch in team history.

Widener on Thursday visits Albright for a 3:00 pm conference doubleheader in Reading, PA.
