Widener senior Steph Connolly (Aston, PA) was picked Commonwealth Conference Softball Player of the Week and junior Kelsey Shultz (Parker Ford, PA) was named its Pitcher of the Week.
Connolly batted .480 (12-for-25) last week over eight games and was the only Widener player to have a hit in every game. That hitting streak is one shy of her career best set last season.
The first team all-league pick in 2008 and second team all-conference selection last season had two hits in four of the contests as well as three RBI vs. Alverno last Tuesday. She hit .336 last year after batting .363 in 2008.
Shultz went 3-1 in the circle last week with a 0.90 ERA, permitting just three earned runs over 22 innings with 16 strikeouts. She did not allow an earned run over seven innings March 1 against RIT and posted nine strikeouts, one shy of her career best, the next day versus Beloit.
Shultz last year recorded 13 complete games and tossed at least seven innings 10 times.
Widener had its game Thursday against Messiah re-scheduled for March 29. Its next doubleheader is Saturday versus Cabrini, beginning at 1:00 pm.
