Freshman guard Lil Carney (Narbeth, PA) was tabbed Commonwealth Conference Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Year and was one of two for Widener to make the all-league teams.
Carney also was picked first team all-conference and sophomore center Casey Pritz (Abington, PA) was tabbed second team all-league.
Carney announced her arrival immediately by scoring in double figures her first five games and also has averaged 14.6 points in her last seven games. In between, she poured in 26 points on January 13 against Albright and notched 19 points and 10 rebounds December 28 vs. nationally ranked Kean.
She is 11th in the conference with 11.4 points per game, 18th with 4.9 rebounds per contest, fifth with 3.35 assists per game, sixth with a .774 free-throw percentage, 11th with 1.88 steals per contest and ninth with 1.42 three-pointers per game.
The announcement now gives Widener three Rookies of the Year on its roster. Pritz won the award last year and senior Rayne Reber (Pottstown, PA) was so honored in 2007.
Pritz has four double-doubles this season and has scored in double figures 14 times, including eight of the last 11 games. She is 16th in the conference with 9.9 points per game, fifth with 7.3 rebounds per contest, second with a .555 shooting percentage and first with 1.81 blocks per game.
Widener on Wednesday hosts Gwynedd-Mercy in the ECAC South Tournament quarterfinals, beginning at 7:00 pm.
