An NCAA video regarding the organization's Division III Identity Initiative featuring Widener President Dr. James T. Harris III now is available on-line.

This video originally was shown last month at the NCAA Convention, during which Dr. Harris was named chair of the NCAA Division III Presidents Council.  He has been on the council since 2007 and previously was its vice-chair.

Three comments from Dr. Harris are included in the video, appearing at 2:11, 2:47 and 3:43.

Dr. Harris spoke about the initiative’s philosophy, attributes and characteristics.  The initiative also looked at the athletic experience for student-athletes, a student’s motivation for choosing a particular school and exploring the themes and messaging for Division III.

Arriving as President of Widener University in 2002, Dr. Harris has overseen the rapid growth of the school on a global level.  Widener the last four years has been ranked among the “best” colleges in the nation according to the Washington Monthly based on how well a school performs as an engine of social mobility, how well it does in fostering scientific and humanistic research and how well it promotes an ethic of service to country.
