Track & Field Puts Forth a Busy Weekend at Three Events

There was no shortage of work this weekend for Widener's track & field team, which competed at three events.

Sophomore Abby Schaffer (Easton, PA) had a solid day at the Lafayette-Rider Winter Games in New York City, closing tied for first in the pole vault at 3.75 meters with the sixth-best mark in Division III this season.  But she was edged on a judge's decision.

Sophomore Brooke MacDonald (Drexel Hill, PA) closed seventh in this event at 3.30 meters and senior Nikita Halteman (Hatfield, PA) ended seventh in the shot put at 11.85 meters.

Freshman Ryan Chance (Glassboro, NJ) was fifth in the triple jump at 13.76 meters and sixth in the long jump at 6.65 meters.  Senior Jacob Munick (Narbeth, PA) finished sixth in the weight throw at 15.21 meters.

The men also excelled in the shot put.  Senior James Green (Lansdale, PA) was fifth at 14.66 meters, sophomore Eric Davis (Ewing, NJ) closed sixth at 14.59 meters and junior Brad Moran (Neshanic Station, NJ) was seventh at 14.02 meters.

The Albright Invitational in Reading, PA produced two Widener wins.  Senior Matt Patterson (Ridley Park, PA) took the weight throw at 14.24 meters and freshman Kyle Gunning (Delran, NJ) won the shot put at 13.59 meters.

Widener also took part in the Valentine Invitational in Boston with sophomore Dennis Conn (Morton, PA) ending 32nd in the 1,000-meter run at 2:32.59.

The Pride on Friday take part in the Keogh Invitational in Haverford, beginning at 4:00 pm.
