Men's Basketball Rallies For 74-70 Win Over Cabrini

(box score)

Senior Chris McDevitt (Doylestown, PA) drilled the go-ahead 3-pointer with 1:54 left and Widener held on from there for a 74-70 victory over Cabrini at Schwartz Center.

McDevitt's triple gave Widener (3-2) the lead for good at 67-66 and capped his scoring with a season-high 17 points, just four short of his career best. It capped a rally in which the Pride trailed, 42-33, just two minutes into the second half.

That three started an 8-0 run which gave the Pride a 72-66 cushion with 25 seconds left. Senior Jarrell Nelson (Waldorf, MD) hit a jumper, junior Jack Brennan (Stratford, NJ) nailed two free throws and freshman Andrew Radomicki (Media, PA) converted 1-of-2 from the line to end it.

A.J. Williams made a layup for the Cavaliers with 19 seconds to play for a 72-68 contest. Radomicki hit 1-of-2 from the line with 18 seconds remaining before John Boyd drilled a pair from the line for Cabrini (2-1), making it 73-70 with 9.2 seconds left.

But Brennan ended the suspense by hitting 1-of-2 from the stripe with 7.5 seconds to go for the final, lifting the Pride to their third win in the last four games.

Brennan ended with a season-best 20 points, two short of his career high, on 7-of-12 shooting and hauled in nine rebounds. Nelson poured in nine points for Widener, which shot an astounding 56 percent (15-of-27) from the field in the second half and 44 percent (26-of-59) for the game.

Dom Farrello netted 21 points, Boyd scored 13, Fran Rafferty poured in 11 and Williams closed with 10 and 10 assists. The Cavaliers shot 44 percent (27-of-62) overall, but were a mere 6-of-18 from 3-point range.

Widener on Wednesday opens Commonwealth Conference play at Arcadia, beginning at 8:00 pm in Glenside, PA.
