Widener ran into a formidable Division I opponent in Delaware and both its men's and women's teams were handed losses in Newark, DE.
The men (8-2) had its eight-match winning streak halted with a 166-89 setback, but still remains 8-0 versus Division III opponents. The women (4-6) had its three-match winning streak ended with a 158-75 setback.
Sophomore Joe Deighan (Wyomissing, PA) took the 200-yard IM in 2:01.03 and was second in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:01.76. Sophomore Charlie Schindler (Pasadena, MD) won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:17.71 and was second in the 200-yard IM in 2:06.73.
Junior Jesse Bregman (Oreland, PA) ended second in the 100-yard freestyle in 48.68 seconds and sophomore Jordan Mulligan (Dingmans Ferry, PA) was second in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:48.31.
For the women, senior Elin Berlin (Stockholm, Sweden) won the 200-yard IM in 2:30.61 and sophomore Shannon MacCormick (Bryn Mawr, PA) closed second in 2:33.02. Catherine Hahn (Thorofare, NJ) was second in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:09.31 and fellow senior Emma Thrasher (Gettysburg, PA) ended second in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:21.12.
It was Widener's final tune-up before the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships, which take place February 12-14 in Wilkes-Barre, PA. The men have won four straight titles.
