Widener’s eight-point halftime lead was not good enough as it was dealt a 70-59 Commonwealth Conference loss at Lebanon Valley in Annville, PA.

Widener (7-9, 3-2 CC) owned a 34-26 cushion at the break thanks to 11 points from freshman Kate Dellinger (Wrightsville, PA) and nine from sophomore Casey Pritz (Abington, PA).  The defense came through by holding the Dutchmen (13-1, 5-0) to just 24 percent (8-of-33) from the field.

Role reversal was the name of the game in the second half as LVC used a 14-5 run in just over four minutes for a 55-48 lead with 5:57 remaining.  Eryn Schultz netted four points in that span.

The Dutchmen put it away courtesy of a 9-1 burst for a 66-53 margin with 1:49 to play.  Suzie Noyes scored five points in the run.

Pritz scored 13 points and tied a career best with 15 rebounds for the Pride, who shot 28 percent (8-of-29) from the floor in the second half and 35 percent (22-of-63) overall.  Dellinger netted 13 points, junior Alex Held (Westminster, MD) poured in 10 and senior Becky Tyler (Wynnewood, PA) hauled in 12 rebounds.

Schultz finished with 19 points and four 3-pointers, Noyes had 11 points and nine rebounds with Liz Borgia scoring 10 points for the Dutchmen, who shot 44 percent (14-of-32) in the second half and 34 percent (22-of-65) overall.

Widener on Wednesday host Alvernia at 6:00 pm as part of the school’s “Royal Rally.”  The first 900 fans in attendance will receive a “Royal Rally” t-shirt and all fans are eligible to compete in a halftime free throw contest to win an iPod.
