Justin Horning and Shane Szumski Named to MAC Football Honor Roll
Bookmark and Share

Widener sophomore wide receiver Justin Horning (Red Hill, PA) and junior outside linebacker Shane Szumski (Moorestown, NJ) each were named to the Middle Atlantic Conference Football Honor Roll.

Horning had the most prolific day of his brief career, hauling in 10 catches for 207 yards in the Pride’s 22-17 win Saturday at Curry.  He caught a 46-yard pass that went to the two-yard line on the final drive.  Three plays later, Horning hauled in a four-yard touchdown pass to put Widener ahead.

Horning’s receiving yards are the most for a Widener player since Michael Coleman had 238 on November 3, 2001.

Szumski was a force with 10 tackles, nine unassisted tackles, a sack and two tackles for a loss.  His play helped hold the Colonels to a mere 104 passing yards.

Szumski was part of a defense which stopped Curry at the one yard line on a dive during the game’s final play.  This ended the Colonels’ 34-game home winning streak.

Widener on Saturday visits Ithaca at 1:00 pm.
