Widener junior defender Nick Politarhos (Ridley, PA) and sophomore defender Matt Parrott (Downingtown, PA) have been named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Men's Lacrosse Academic All-Area Team.
Politarhos put forth another solid campaign in being tabbed first team All-Middle Atlantic Conference a second straight year. He led a stingy defense which posted a 7.08 goals-against average and yielded five goals or fewer in six games this season. He was one of four on the team to start all 19 contests, led the squad with 32 caused turnovers and was fourth with 52 ground balls.
Politarhos has a 3.550 GPA in Hospitality Management and is a two-time member of the MAC Academic Honor Roll.
Parrott also was key for the defense with 33 ground balls and 16 caused turnovers. Playing all 19 contests with 18 starts, he helped the Pride notch a 17-0 victory March 28 at Alvernia for the second shutout in school history and post a four-game winning streak late in the year.
Parrott owns a 3.516 GPA in Business, qualifying for the MAC Academic Honor Roll.
Widener (10-9, 7-3 MAC) advanced to the MAC final a fifth straight year and recorded its school-record eighth consecutive season with double-figure wins. The Pride's dream of a fifth MAC title in a row ended May 2 with an 8-7 loss at FDU-Florham.
