Four For Baseball Honored With Conference Awards

Four from Widener's baseball squad were honored with Commonwealth Conference awards.
 
Freshman pitcher Jason Ferrie (Royersford, PA) was tabbed the league's Rookie of the Year and senior designated hitter Colin McHale (Wynnewood, PA) was picked first team all-league. Freshman left fielder Dan Sieracki (Cherry Hill, NJ) and sophomore second baseman Alex Oliver (Lebanon, NJ) were tabbed second team all-conference.
 
Ferrie enjoyed a phenomenal campaign in which he went 5-0 over 10 starts. He was fifth in the league with a 3.05 ERA, fourth with a .226 opposing batting average, fifth with 58 strikeouts and fifth in wins in addition to just 28 walks. Against the league, he was 3-0 with a 2.32 ERA to go with 34 strikeouts and only nine walks over 31 innings.
 
McHale earned his award one year after being picked second team all-league. He was tied for second on the team with four home runs, third with 28 RBI, fifth with a .510 slugging percentage, tied for fourth with 10 multi-hit games and tied for second with eight multi-RBI contests.
 
Sieracki came up with numerous clutch hits and it was reflected in him finishing second in the league with seven home runs and a .677 slugging percentage. He was third on the team with a .364 batting average, tied for second with 10 doubles, second with 31 RBI and tied for third with 36 hits.
 
Oliver had a strong debut season in which he batted .310 with 26 hits, four doubles, 17 RBI, a .425 on-base percentage, a .962 fielding percentage, six multi-hit games and five multi-RBI games.
 
Widener (21-17-1) notched its school-record, fifth-straight season with at least 20 wins. The Pride advanced to the conference final for the second time in three years, but fell to Elizabethtown.
