Track & Field Enjoys Solid Weekend at MAC Championships; Tim Malloy Wins Two Awards

It was another star-spangled weekend for Widener's track and field teams, which excelled at the Middle Atlantic Conference Outdoor Championships in Elizabethtown, PA.

Freshman Tim Malloy (Langhorne, PA), the men’s MAC Indoor Rookie of the Meet, added MAC Outdoor Rookie of the Meet and co-Field Athlete of the Meet to his resume.  He won the high jump at 1.98 meters, the triple jump by clearing 13.84 meters and the 110-meter hurdles in 15.22 seconds.

Junior James Green (Lansdale, PA), last spring’s Field Athlete of the Meet, repeated as shot put champion by tossing 15.50 meters to break the track record and provisionally qualify for the NCAA Championships.  He also won the javelin throw at 58.94 meters, also a "B" mark for the NCAA Championships.

The men's 4x100 meter relay team was victorious in 43.07 seconds.  The squad consisted of senior Tom Creighton (Springfield, PA), junior Bernard Innocent (Fairfax, VA), sophomore Robert Innocent (Fairfax, VA) and freshman Emmauel Rupert (Baltimore, MD).
 
The men ended fourth with 130 points.  Elizabethtown won the title with 170 points.
 
Junior Nikita Halteman (Hatfield, PA) duplicated her shot put triumph from the indoor championships by winning with a toss of 11.87 meters. Freshman Brooke McDonald (Drexel Hill, PA) captured the pole vault with a leap of 3.20 meters.

The women closed sixth with 64 points.

Sam Baer
Women's Soccer

Senior Sam Baer was named Widener's Women's Outstanding Athlete of the Year.

Baer capped a remarkable career by being named All-Commonwealth Conference a fourth straight year, picked to the first team a third consecutive season and third team All-Middle Atlantic Region.  She was named second team all-region in 2008.

 

Baer ends a spectacular career in which she was tabbed second team all-league as a defender in 2006, first team all-conference as a forward in 2007 and first team as a midfielder the last two years.  She graduates first in school history with 40 assists, second with 29 goals and second with 98 points.

James Woodley
Football

Senior James Woodley was named Widener's Men's Outstanding Athlete of the Year.

It was another standout campaign for Woodley, who was tabbed first team All-Middle Atlantic Conference a third straight year and second team All-East Region by D3Football.com.  A four-year starter who constantly drew double teams, Woodley ended tied for fourth in the conference with 14.5 tackles for a loss, tied for eighth with 5.5 sacks and tied for 23rd with 5.7 tackles per game.

 

Woodley, who was invited to the East Preps Football Combine, had 19 tackles to tie for the third most in school history, 14 solo tackles, 1.5 sacks and five tackles for a loss October 31 against Lebanon Valley.
