Widener senior nose guard James Woodley (Pittsgrove, NJ), one of the most feared defensive players in the Middle Atlantic Conference, has been named to the D3Football.com Team of the Week.
Woodley had a career day Saturday against Lebanon Valley, ending with a personal-best 19 tackles. A four-year starter who draws double teams on almost every play, he also totaled 14 solo tackles, 1.5 sacks and five tackles for a loss.
The 19 tackles are tied for the third most in school history. Tom Eisenhower had the same number on November 14, 1998 against Susquehanna and Bill Collins reached this in 1997 against King's. The Widener record of 21 was accomplished by Clarence Giles in 1996 against King's.
It has been another standout season for Woodley, who was named first team All-MAC the last two years. This year, he is first in the league with 14.5 tackles for a loss, 17th with six tackles per game and tied for sixth with 5.5 sacks per contest.
