Devan Green and Jamie Ballew Named First Team All-Conference For Volleyball; Danielle Wetling Picked Second Team

Widener senior Devan Green (Monroe Center, IL) was picked first team All-Commonwealth Conference for volleyball a second straight year, sophomore Jamie Ballew (Media, PA) also was tabbed first team and senior Danielle Wetling (Upper Darby, PA) was named second team.

Green once again has had a dominant year at the net as one of the leagues top hitters, sitting sixth in the conference with a .268 hitting percentage and 11th with 2.30 kills per set.  The three-time member of the Middle Atlantic Conference Academic Honor Roll is first in school history with 176 aces, second with 1,193 kills and third with 368 blocks.

Ballew made the jump after being named second team all-conference last season and the league's Rookie of the Year.  She is fifth in the conference with 8.36 assists per set, has dished at least 30 assists 19 times this year and already is sixth in school annals with 2,154 career assists.

Wetling, who arrived in 2006 as a walk-on, posted her second consecutive second-team accolade.   She is third on the team with 2.15 kills per set, first with 46 aces and third with 30 blocks.  Wetling is seventh in Widener history with 804 kills.

Widener (22-15, 5-2 CC) for the second straight year has advanced to the ECAC South Tournament semifinals.  After Wednesday's 3-1 quarterfinal win over Swarthmore, the Pride on Saturday face Gallaudet at 1:30 pm in Center Valley, PA.  A victory puts Widener into the final at 4:00 pm against either DeSales or Saint Vincent.

The Pride notched their seventh 20-win season in school history and it is the first time they have consecutive 20-win years since posting four straight from 1988-91.  Widener this season advanced to the conference tournament a third straight year before bowing to eventual champion Lebanon Valley in the semifinals.

Widener last season defeated City College of New York in the ECAC South Tournament quarterfinals before falling to Penn State Behrend in the semifinals.  It was the team's first postseason appearance in school history.
